Take your life back

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Don’t be held hostage by 24/7 connectivity and work and family demands.  Some of us sistah’s work too hard because we’re willing.  Claim private time.  Others respect us when we love and honor ourselves and ask for help when we need it.  Without quiet time we become sad and sick.  Work in as progressive an environment as possible, where output, not face time, is valued.  Be an enlightened leader; know that overworked, tired staff don’t give their best, and in time become disgruntled, depressed and ill.  Break away from the pack.  Remember sometimes less is more and slower is faster.  Your life awaits your attention and dedication.

Go and uncomplicated your life this step will increase your happiness and wellness.  Cheers.

True Freedom

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

What is true freedom? Is it simply a function of having no limits on our time and space, being able to move from place to place without restrictions, go wherever our heart desires to take us? Is it having enough latitude to say and do as we please, enough money to tell an employer to “take this job and shove it?” Is it having no commitments, responsibilities, and obligation to tie us down?

Granted, all of the above represent some measure of being free, but are they really what true freedom is all about?

I think back to slavery- a word which conjures up images of our ancestors in chains, people taken from their homeland by force, trickery, and other people’s greed- is still alive and present today.  Individually, we are all still slaves to our own personal addictions.  Whether it is money, alcohol, drugs, a job, a relationship, or lifestyle to which we have become accustomed, we have allowed ourselves to become bound by the chains of our desires.

The fact is, we are all prisoners of life’s constraints-whatever they may be.  But that is not to say that achieving true freedom is an impossible dream.  Difficult as it may be to get there, I believe the goal is attainable.  A journey to place where you are totally liberated, attaining true freedom is an ongoing exercise in getting to the point where you realize you need nothing or no one to make you feel worthy, complete or of value.

You cannot truly be free unless you can walk away from everything- that job, that man, that relationship, that lifestyle, that dress, car, shoes, or bag you simply must have to feel worthwhile.

Point being we are of value because we are somebody.  We exist, and our existence is what makes us of value in this world.  Simply put, we need nothing else to validate us, except what we choose to do with our lives.

The choice we make every day to do or not do this thing or that thing is the price we pay for the privilege of being free.  How close we are to attaining true freedom is always an individual moment, however, each of us brought closer or taken farther away from achieving that goal by the choices that we make and the behavior patterns that we allow to rule us.

Being ready for true freedom take preparation.  For many of us, it is a goal that may not be achieved until we reach the end of our lives.  Personally, I believe that the surrender to and acceptance of death’s embrace is, by fact, the closest we can ever get to achieving true freedom.  How prepared will you be at that time, again it’s a purely individual moment.  While we are still alive, however, is it the only time we will ever have to prepare?  Cheers.

Fall In Love

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

When Luther sang about the power of love, he was almost certainly talking about love’s ability to keep us healthy, happy and stress-free.  More than a few recent studies have also pointed out the link between happy relationships and better health.

In a loving relationship you have someone there to share your highs & lows with, to talk with regarding concerns, to enjoy quality time with.  Happy couples also suffer less depression, and lower stress levels.  Some of the stress relief comes from having someone to share your life with.

Yes, life can be a challenge.  But remember having someone to support you through the difficult times and share your celebrations can be the ticket to a healthy mind & body!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Monday, January 18th, 2010

I am blessed to enjoy many things in my lifetime because of the sacrifices made by Dr. King.  His dream lives on today and forever.  It is because of his dream and his fight for justice that I am able to have my own business and enjoy many freedoms.  I am grateful and today I remember the legacy of Dr. King.  RIP

My Daily Prayer

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

There’s an old saying “prayer changes things”.  I know this to be true in all my living.  Praying clears out mental garbage, stuff that can truly clog anyone’s ability to think.  I pray for inner peace, wisdom, knowledge, clarity and the determination to stay focused and committed.  I feel best and embrace my best days when I am aligning my day with what God has planned for me.  Now that’s energizing.  Do you have a daily prayer or meditation affirmation in place in your life?  Cheers.

Comparison

Impromptu Post

Do you find yourself comparing your life to others?  Happy women “don’t play the comparison games because we fully understand that there will always be someone who has more than we do”.  We get it.  We just embrace our own lives and try to make the best of it.  If you’re comparing your life to someone else’s stop.  You need to DO YOU!  Live your own life and dreams, everything else will follow!  Cheers.

Can You Stand To Be Blessed?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

We’ve just completed the first week of the New Year and already some of us have been faced with more drama than we deserve.  In the midst of it all we must count our blessing and remember the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy.  The enemy has an agenda and we must continue to watch & pray.  Today, give thanks for all the things the enemy had attempted to do but has not been successful!  Sooner or later the person will know you are a child of God and that no weapon formed against you will prosper, it won’t work!  Today, and every day I give thanks!!!  Do you?

Say NO to stress! Tip #5

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Journal.  Start journaling, don’t add up all your problems, instead count your blessings.  Write about the good things that are happening and focus on those things.  Leave all the negativity behind.  Cheers!

Say NO to stress! Tip #4

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Change your mindset.  Instead of looking at your problems as obstacles look at them as challenges with lesson for you to learn.  Embrace the lessons you learn and avoid those types of problems in the future.  Cheers!
