LESSONS

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Sometimes the bigger your misfortunes, the closer you are to enlightenment.  If you feel particularly tested right now, ask yourself what am being tested for!  Patience? Compassion? Resilience? Open-mindedness?  Perhaps there are some strength’s I need to further develop.  After you meditate and conclude the answer, go to work on getting these things accomplished.

If you’re going through a challenging time, remind yourself that this specific event is merely a part of your life, not your whole life.  Don’t let overwhelming events and disappointments get you down, remember “your best is yet to come!”  Cheers.

Happy Father’s Day!

We at Sistahology would like to let all fathers out there know that we see you, and we appreciate you!  We realize it takes men to raise children and women cannot ever fulfill the complete role of a father to his child.  I like many other women have had to do more as single woman raising my children but it has always been a joy for me to be there for my sons regardless of who was absent or why!  My children will always be my joy and not my excuse or a sad story.  I have always realized I could not and that God did not create me to be a father but a damn good mother and that meant giving and being whatever I had to for my sons.  That’s what real parents do!  There are NO rewards and accolades for doing what you are suppose to do………….

Despite the way society likes to generalize and portray many fathers of color in a negative light we know there are still very many great black men out there holding it down and taking care of their families and working hard to remain an active and important factor in your child’s life. So in recognition of all of the active family men, cheers! Happy Father’s Day.

To my own father – R.I.P. Mr. Kelly Easter, Jr. 8/1/2008, gone but never forgotten, we love and miss you everyday Dad.

Live in the now

Anxiety is a useless emotion.  Its only function is to derail your focus, steal your joy & happiness, and rob you of valuable energy that you could channel into creating the life you desire for yourself.

To knock it out, position yourself in the present moment, start by asking yourself how are things in my life right now?  Am I happy?  What will it take for me to be happy?  Good!  Dealing with the task at hand helps pave the path to a better and happier future for you.  Cheers!

New Beginnings

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

The world is full of possibilities—even when you lose something you truly loved, especially when it’s by choice.

Though the concept of letting go sounds great, it’s a delicate art. You can’t successfully try to let something go, because trying is at odds with releasing. Fortunately, our subconscious minds already know what to do, if our conscious minds are willing to suggest doing it.

Right now, consider something in your life that’s ending (this might be all you think about, or you may have to ponder a bit, but you’ll find something, trust me).  As you hold this fading thing in your mind’s eye, inhale while silently repeating the phrase, Let it happen. When you exhale, think, Let it go. Keep at this for several minutes. When you feel emotions like sadness or anger begin to flow, you’ll know it’s working.
Practice this meditation consistently and you can strip most of the trauma and drama right out of your world.

No one expects instant equanimity from you, but as you repeatedly think, Let it happen, let it go, you’ll begin heading in the right direction. Relax into the bittersweet mix of emotions, and go on to the next step.

Focus on a Present Happiness.  Even during difficult times, there are things that bring you joy, or at least gratitude. Once you’re in the receptive state of letting go, think of your greatest current source of comfort or happiness—a loved one, your job, your innate determination.  Whatever it is, write it down now.

The task here is to let go of the past, and move on.  You cannot embrace new beginnings without endings.  Cheers, to new beginnings.
